Burning Palo Santo, an aromatic resin from a South American wood, is often used in purification and spiritual rituals. Here's how to do it safely:

Materials needed:

  1. Palo Santo Sticks
  2. Matches or lighter
  3. A heat-resistant container (such as a ceramic bowl or abalone shell)
  4. A snuffer or bellows (optional)

Steps:

  1. Preparation:

    • Choose a well-ventilated area. You can open a window to allow the smoke to escape.
    • Place the Palo Santo in a heat-safe container to collect the ashes.
  2. Lighting the Palo Santo:

    • Hold the Palo Santo stick by the end.
    • Light the end of the stick using matches or a lighter. Let the flame burn for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  3. Waiting:

    • When the end of the Palo Santo stick is lit, gently blow on the flame until it goes out. The wood should then release an aromatic smoke.
  4. Purification:

    • Pass the smoking Palo Santo stick around the area you wish to cleanse. Focus on the intention of purification and release of negative energies.
  5. Extinguishing the Palo Santo:

    • When you are done with the ritual, extinguish the Palo Santo stick by gently tapping it in the heat-proof container. Make sure there are no flames left.
  6. Storage:

    • Store Palo Santo sticks in a dry place for future use.

Safety Tips:

  • Never leave Palo Santo burning unattended.
  • Use a heat-resistant container to avoid any risk of fire.
  • Completely extinguish the Palo Santo stick after use.
  • If you have allergies or respiratory problems, be aware of the effects of smoke.
